We’ve all enjoyed browsing the website of Paris based Photographer, Sune Czajkowski recently.

His portfolio of work is elegant to say the least and has an air of sophistication about it that you rarely see. Sune’s work is regularly featured in Fashion Magazines and Advertising campaigns throughout Europe and beyond.

We’re not sure how to pronounce his surname, but we’d love to work with this photographer at some point either way. Get yourself a drink, sit back and browse his website to enjoy the work of this great Dane: http://www.kowski.dk

Whilst looking for some visual reference for a design project I’m starting soon I recently stumbled across this amazing series of images entitled ‘Courts’ by Elliot Wilcox. It is a visual study of indoor playing courts, which in theory sounds about as dull as it is ever going to get. But, and it’s a big but, his abstract take on these courts turns something that would never be seen as interesting from an artistic point of view, into pure art in every sense. From a graphic designers point of view the symmetry and balance of these images is perfect.

“Much like a gallery space is missed to the artwork, the space of these courts is missed to the sport. They create a path to revealing the unnoticed and exposing the unexposed, consequently romanticizing the courts.”

This is mesmorising photography at its best - I find myself getting completely sucked in by them… I’ve got to stop staring at them! Take a look for yourself… but be warned, you may find these addictive… but in a good way.

Methodical creativity… How very rice.

As a designer I take a lot of visual reference from Japan more often than not, and one thing’s for sure; the Japanese never fail to surprise me with their ‘methodical’ creativity… and what do you know, they’ve done it again? Using different varieties of rice, Japanese farmers have created these superb ‘cultural’ images in their rice fields aided by computers to help plot out the design.

Now I’m a big fan of Hokusai and his ‘Great Wave’ - in fact it’s one of my favourites from Art History lessons at Art College (many years ago!). It’s been reproduced thousands of times in varying formats and to be honest ‘done to death’. So yes, I’ve seen it in many, many forms… but never like this!

Good effort.

Loved this ad for Australia’s best selling VB beer. With dwindling sales and tough competition from ‘fancy import lagers’ the board at VB made a decision to move away from the agency they had used for decades. It’s a really clever departure from their traditional ‘hard-drinking’ reputation to a warmer ‘everyman’ image, which is bound to draw people in. And it’s bloody funny too (mate).

Just goes to show what can be achieved when a talented new agency gives a slightly tired looking brand a bit of a shake up.

See what you think…

We totally fell in love with these curly haired pigs at the Pink Pig Farm in Holme, North Lincolnshire recently. Called Rhubarb and Custard, these adorable chaps are residents on the lovely farm trail.

These curly coated, rather large, ‘bundles of joy’ are an old Lincolnshire breed that became extinct and are now being re-introduced into Lincolnshire. Just imagine baby pigs covered in curls, it’s almost too cute to handle.

When we stumbled across them on our windy visit to the farm, I think the exact words uttered were “Good lord look at the size of these, they’re never sheep?!”. On closer inspection we realised our error and took photographic evidence as we doubted anyone in the office would believe our adventure.

Anna wants to adopt one, I think Marianne secretly does too, and I am jealous of their natural curls.

So here’s the proof of these most unusual porkers!!

Rhubarb or Custard?

If pigs aren’t your thing, The Pink Pig has plenty to offer. Delicious food in both the restaurant and farm shop. We ate in the restaurant and then could not resist picking up a few things on our way out via the shop; fresh crunchy asparagus and there are still two pieces of fudge on my desk I am guarding with my life. The service was very friendly and we got to taste some amazing cheeses, from a lady who could certainly teach you a thing or two about cheese.

Outside is the farm trail which is very interactive; animals, diggers, landscaped garden area, play areas and of course Rhubarb and Custard greet you near the start (they don’t take your money, just have a quick sniff). Just watch out for that cockerel he’ll appear out of nowhere to say hello.

Julia Fullerton-Baten is a photographer who is rapidly developing a reputation as one the leading young photographers in the USA.

She has won a large number of awards, and her images have been hung in the National Portrait Gallery, London, at Paris-Photo, at Photo-London and shown at Arles. She has also been profiled in many professional and popular photographic magazines.

As a quirk she does not use official models, but instead takes to the street and hand picks a member of the public to give her work unique quality…

All very cool and Kooky, take a look…

San-Franciscan photographer Jason Lee uses the best medium ever, with perfect lighting, clever photography and a soupçon of photoshop. These are his own creations.

Sometimes you see something so breathtaking and so lovely, you just have to share it with the world. If you have children already you will understand, if you don’t you will want them and if you really don’t want them yourself, you will want to borrow Jason’s.

These girls are going to need twenty-four hour surveillance when older as not only are they stunningly beautiful, but as you can see, already have the most phenomenal and unique personalities. I have no doubt if mischief is to be found, they will not be far away!

You can click here to view his entire album but these are some of our favourites.

So, it’s January again. For the most part its grey and very cold and the excitement of Christmas seems like a distant memory. Time for some escapism - and what’s better for that than a trip to the cinema to watch a great film?

Che

Che

Che: Part 1 is the first film of a two-part charting the liberation of Cuba and South America. Che is played by Benicio del Toro with such a superb performance you could be watching a real-life documentary.

The scenes of the lush Sierra Maestra mountains transport you away from our modest, little island and Fidel’s band of brave Cubans will lift the spirits even on the bluest, rainiest afternoon.

And if you’re still struggling to get back into the swing of things, Part 2 is out in February.
