Hooray! Art Wins!

Thank you to everyone who joined D4 in campaigning against the government’s new GCSE performance register which downgraded the arts to become second-class subjects in English schools.

Special thanks must go to #includedesign and #bacctothefuture who did a great job pulling everyone together. Isn’t it amazing to think that social media, used intelligently, can really give us the power to make our voice heard. Could this be a way forward in revitalising the UK’s voting system?

Tetley’s (surreptitiously) tapping in to the real ale market.

In a ‘purveyors of fine ales’ type pub with my mate Dan the other day, although due to it being too busy, and considering our age, we decided we had stood up long enough and decided to move on to an old local haunt where we knew we would get a seat.

So on entering and much to my surprise, I saw the pub had its own cask ale, and being the inquisitive type I thought I’d give it a go, and what should pass my lips, an ever so familiar taste, a taste of my formative years – good old fashioned Tetley’s. So after inspecting the pump clip in detail my thoughts were validated when I saw the signature by no other than Mr Joshua Tetley. Continue Reading →

The EE rebrand is nothing new

Is it me or are you less than impressed with the launch of EE, the new name for the Everything Everywhere 4G network? Don’t get me wrong, the logo marque is OK (as far as a couple of circles on top of each other go) but it’s the big idea behind it all that leaves me feeling a little cheated. I fear we may have another case of the emperors new clothes on standby. Continue Reading →

A journey through time, space and company receptions…

After leaving the reception area of a potential client with Justin recently we had our usual post-meeting chat as we walked to the car. You know the one where you’re at a safe enough distance from the building to do and say (or swear) as you please. Anyway, so what I thought was going to be a poor meeting turned out to be a great one, and as we made it into the ‘safe-zone’ I found myself muttering a phrase I can’t stand, “Never judge a book by its cover”. I used this cringeworthy cliché because I’d had a bad feeling before the meeting. A bad feeling based on little more than my judgement of the company’s rather ragged-looking reception area. To be fair it had seen better days, much better days in fact, but despite this the business was spot-on. So, it seems the old sayings are true, and more fool me.

Walking in the Rain

As an avid wearer of waterproofs – following numerous incidents in torrential rain and buses driving through puddles – I was amazed when I read about a new art installation at The Barbican that puts YOU in control when it’s raining cats and dogs. Continue Reading →

Zombie party @ DLS

Commissioning a piece of design at a bus stop is not usually common practice, but why the hell not when it involves Bozzwell (of Hiem fame) and techno stalwarts the Black Dog. Continue Reading →
