Introducing Mr Andy Richards

We are over the moon to announce that top brand designer Andy Richards is joining our team in March. Andy has been the Senior Creative at Omnia Dubai for a good few years, working on huge international projects, whilst also founding the inspirational design blog Derive. It is an absolute coup for D4 that he has decided to come and work with us here in Sheffield.

“Park Hill is yuppieville?”

When you think of Sheffield, what first springs to mind?

Richard Hawley? Arctic Monkeys? Pulp?

How about that bloomin’ great building that overlooks the city? When you enter Sheffield via the Parkway, one of the first things to greet you is Park Hill. Whether you arrive by bus, tram, car or train, it’s right there, towering over you. Continue reading ““Park Hill is yuppieville?”” »

Everywhere

I spied this bit of graffiti in Paris the other week.  It seems the recession has hit the very stylish 1st arrondissement. Even opposite Agnes B’s flagship stores on Rue du jour there are abandoned shops. And on each of these someone has written one simple word. “Everywhere.” Continue reading “Everywhere” »

D4 in Munich … A Video Diary

So… it’s already December and Christmas will soon be upon us. Despite the time of year and others slowing down to a serene festive pace it’s been a busy ol’ time for us all here at D4. Especially myself and Richard, as we have just returned from a trip to Münich to see our longstanding client of over 9 years to meet the latest additions to their marketing team and discuss their big plans for 2012. A Life in Garbage

Wasteland is a documentary by the filmmaker Lucy Walker which follows artist Vik Muniz over a three year period as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores”—self-designated pickers of recyclable materials.

Space Matters

That’s according to the extremely talented Turkish artist Mehmet Ali Uysal. For him, space is paramount – the be all and end all. This is truly reflected in the title of his latest works, ‘Space Matters’. In this collection he has explored how to reshape interior and exterior space around him.

Tom Stade – Very Wrong Indeed

Tom Stade first grabbed my attention with his anecdotes about British shopping traits from a foreigners perspective (he’s a Canadian émigre living in Britain). He finally came to Sheffield as part of his debut UK tour. Tales of his global adventures with his sidekick Jimmy, his first class story telling and irreverent humour led to a great night out. His appearance on the Comedy Roadshow was seriously tamed down in comparision to his live show, so if you’re easily offended, I would maybe think twice.

When the world zigs, zag.

Ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty have really pushed forward the idea of a truly global approach to their site. All of their main office locations – London, Singapore, New York, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and Mumbai  – are all live on the same home page. We love it.

Mr Mead

British Bio-Mechanical Anthropomorphism anyone? Hmmm. Thought not. Mr Mead is a Bristol based artist who was so freaked out as a kid by seeing the 1976 ballet film “The Tales of Beatrix Potter” that he’s created a new species to counter his terror. I think the little human mechanical animals are quite lovely. And I like that they’re cross hatched with a pen and ink. Keep it surreal Mr Mead.
